looking at selling my tig welder but cant write a post in the for sale section, read somewhere i need to have posted so many comments. does anyone know how many this is?

Limit is just to allow members to check other posts to see whether the advertiser is real.

I think we're a little too generous on here, another forum I'm on is 25 posts and 60 days, it sorts out the genuine members from those who join just to sell items, though in your case you're an old-timer.
It's worked ok so far, only one member has bought something that cost him a considerable sum to have repaired as the seller disappeared.

haha yes have been a member for a while but only to veiw the posts and never really posted myself

There does seem to be a lot of people joining the forum recently, and asking the same question very soon after.

Edition38 forums require 200 posts before being able to use classifieds

I think that's a little excessive to be honest. 20 posts is enough to stop people registering purely to sell stuff.
