One for the electronics bods on here:
Annoyingly I've damaged the control board on one of my desktop hard drives by briefly putting an external molex connector in the wrong way round.
It didn't actually go in but the pins touched which put 12V through the 5V pin and resulted in a blown connector on the board plus a blown TVS diode.
Now, my solderage skills are next to useless on small stuff like this and I've no idea where to start when it comes to surface mount stuff anyway so my options are to either get my board repaired or get another board and get the ROM chip swapped from my old one to the new one.
Anyone any good with this sort of thing?
I'm pretty sure the drive itself is fine and I'd really like to salvage what's on it if possible.
