Can anyone recommend a air compressor

Hi all ,my current compressor has died,all i know about it, that it was belt driven 50ltr 3hp. Was very old so no idea what the cfm it was producing and was nt really that great.
I was wondering could anyone recommend a decent air comp without breaking the bank.
Im using 5 meters of air hose and using a devilbiss spray gun needing Air Inlet Pressure 2.0. bar 29 psi and Air Consumption 453 l/min (16 cfm).
Taking the length of the hose and the gun,whats the apprpriate cfm would i need my air comp to produce.

Almost all manufacturers over state the Free Air Displaced CFM by 25-35% which is THE important figure. The same as most tools makers understate there requirement for air.

So you need a unit that states between 21.5-24CFM advertised to give you 16FAD CFM. Forget about the size of tank all that does is reduce the intervals between start ups.

Then there is the matter at that size (16 FAD CFM) you are boarding on 3phase, have a look a Clarke units from Machine Mart you're looking at 500beer tokens

Nowadays with HVLP and air fed masks you are looking at two 3hp ones to be near the mark unfortunately, what do you normally spray ?, bikes or cars

That's an HVLP gun, if you went conventional you'd need a lot less compressor to run it - say 7cfm-ish delivered. Comp must have been struggling to work that gun? 3hp's say 9ish delivered, usually (mine's 14 displacement, 9.5 FAD fr'instance).

You can still go on the old rule of thumb of 3cfm of free air delivered per horse power so to properly run your gun only, you would be looking at a compressor driven by a 5.5hp motor.
