Can anyone make this? cnc??

Im wanting this to be made, was wondering if anybody on here makes these sort of things or has the capabilities to make it.


Ive drawn it up on solidworks, first time ive used it, but pretty sure measurements are correct. unsure where to go from here. Can an engineer work from what ive made or do i need to take it further

wanting it made from aluminium roughly 12mm thick. Overall dimensions are 400mm x 100mm

Hi sam
So long as your dimensions are good it can be made, we normally just get cad models to work from.
just make sure you supply in a format they can read i.e. .iges or .dxf
and make sure you give them the tolerances you want them to work to

A waterjet cutter could make that easily. CNC mill could also but I don't know if a laser cutter has capability for 12mm ally. Waterjet would be cheapest.

I would make a 2D plot of that drawing with sheet set with dims material..

Although theres plenty who can work to there word (and phill being one of them) Iv had dealings with a local firm who haven't been capable with CAD ballsed the job then charged, without a hard copy theres little you can do...

Its why I now keep a contact in Brum to do the job properly rather than bothering with local Muppet's

as said make sure its DXF format and check your drawing with a DXF viewer...

Snowy that really annoys me
Since we started on our own full time in feb (after the demise of the day job) our reputation is the prized asset, nothing is sent out unless correct and to date we haven't missed a deadline
This has generated work for us as we picked up a new big customer from recommendation off another customer

I wouldn't even bother with a cad model with that. So easy to program on the face of the machine its only very basic 2d. Only need a basic plan view drawing dimensioned.

I can offer to do it for you are very sensible cost compared to commercial places as i operate as a sole trader with my business. The only down side is my cnc mill is down at the moment, i need to get it sorted in the new year if money allows. If you can wait i can do it with no complications and you are assured of a top job properly finished and not poorly finished as is so often the case these days. Pics in my galleries are typical of a small selection of the work i do.

It had me spiting too, but alarm bells rang when they phoned to ask what units it was in, I knew the cad was sound because Id cut a profile out myself to check....

I wouldn't of minded so much if there was a halfway house.... but to be fully charged for a cock....

Moral is you never go back.....

No issues with S/S test piece spot on, job correct to the quote first time.....

Snowy S/s has been good for me lately, we purchased a wire eroder back in august and had some problems with it, manufacturer wanted 1k before they would speak to us because we purchased from a 3rd party.
Steve and Gary gave us lots of technical help as they had a similar model also lent me the manuals for the machine. but sadly had to cough up the money it hurt at the time but has paid for itself now.
We've just had a 160tonne power press and trying to finalise the purchase of another 5 machines our new 1800sq/ft unit is getting really full now, reckon the day job going bust was a good thing

good to here your busy, what sort of work you doing? toolmaking still or more general eng?....

Constructions taken a real tumble here so that works flattened off I think that works going to get even tighter next year so im not chaseing , designed a couple of porta framed buildings on the back of mine, and am organizing the works and build rather than doing the work, hoping that takes off......

Mainly toolmaking (old habits die hard) but we will do pretty much anything we can get our hands on, last month we were making machine gaurds.
We are generally busy with the toolmaking, mainly repairs and modifiactions, having said that we have made 7 new tools since we moved into our own unit in september, unfortunately a lot of our customers are still buying tools from china, one of my customers has just won a £10million contract all tools coming from china
We have got enough work on the floor to achieve the jan target
So far we're really happy with the last 9/10 months as we've moved into our own unit purchased 2 surface grinders, 2 milling machines, 160t press, wire eroder and many of the other items we need, only really need to get a CMM now as our customers like their paperwork (isir on 6 parts and cap study for 25parts) and all paid for.
I'll have to get a photo album sorted with some of the tools on
Hope your's starts to pick up in new year.
