Can anyone identify this screw please?

I’m after a couple of screws as per the photos below:



They appear to be the ‘self drilling’ type, size as indicated here:



Any thoughts on a possible supplier please?

They actually hold the lid onto the hinges of the toilet seat!

The others must have become loose and disappeared down the big white telephone over the course of time.

What do the holes look like ? and what material is the lid ? The screws are so badly corroded, they've probably fallen out because the holes have expanded/rotted.

That's just a short M4 self tapping screw. As H Dom says, get a longer one a cut the end off it.

The holes themselves are fine and trying one of the remaining screws in the existing holes, it still pulls up nice and tight.

The others must have just worked loose over time and eventually dropped out.

You can get coarse screws for going into plastic, modern chainsaws are littered with the things.

Given the original ones have served their purpose by forming the threads when they were initially inserted, just buy some stainless 4mm PZ2 countersunk wood screws and cut grind the pointy tip off until the length is correct. 13mm or 16mm should do.

For a couple of £ I’ve ordered a pack of 3,9 x 13,0. That should sort it.

So the screws are loose at the download port, maybe fit a plug before tapping that!

Tek screws are not the best for this problem.

See the description viz: "Screw lengths are measured overall including the head." That means the quoted length also includes the self-drilling bit, which is unthreaded and thus will not grip the material at all. On a short screw, the self-drilling part is a greater proportion of the overall length than it is on a long screw, so the weakening effect is magnified.
