Don't very often attempt any vertical welding as I'm useless at it. I can get a semi decent weld on the flat/slightly angled, when it comes to vertical it never goes well, had no choice here.
Can anyone shed any light on what I may be doing wrong?
These two welds were with a 6013 2.5mm rod on a Thermal Arc 175 machine at around 75amps (the gauge is way off on the dial judging by welds on the flat with 2.5mm rods) I ran it a little hotter than I would on the flat but this didn't seem to help (not sure if it should help).
They're a mess, luckily there're nothing critical in the strength department. It looks to me like the slag is still on but a good go at it with the chipping hammer won't shift it so I think it must be the finished weld or the slag has mixed with the molten steel?
