Can anybody tell me what a quad bike is registered as?

Thats off road track and loads of fun no doubt, a 400cc cart or less would show a clean pair of heels.
Just think they are pointless on public roads, as are trikes. None of the benefits of a car in poor weather and none of the benefits of getting through traffic.

They are meant for a Sunday morning couple of hours of fun and cant be beaten for etching a smile on your face if riding one...Would i ride one to Italy for a fortnight..NEVER

Mine was registered as a quadricycle. Horrible thing to ride on the roads without a differential. Road tax was more than I pay on the family Skoda !

I think if you passed your test after the 1st of august 2013 like me you need a motorbike licence to drive a quad on the road as they have discarded the b1 licence category.

You will have group B which cover it. B1 was an old thing, that let you drive a 3 wheeler with a bike license back in the day.

And the comment earlier about quads and trikes being pointless, due not being able to filter and get wet etc. The one thing they do have which many forms of modern transport lack is grinn factor. Old two strokes have it too.

What's grin factor worth ? I was out on my bike last year and in town the traffic was queuing, quad rider was hanging back till he had a 30 yard gap in front of him and then wheelying up to the car in front. I filtered past him and gave him a wave leaving him waiting for his next grin factor moment just annoying everyone in the queue. Out of town he was charging after me not going to be happy till he was past, trying to show me that he was faster but in a 50 limit I just watched him go exceeding the limit by at least 20mph. Next set of lights in Chesterfield I strolled past him doing his party piece again and gave him another wave. A friend of mine who lost a leg had a quad for his daily transport as he never drove a car, a Kawasaki KLF and it was ideal for him as he was always a bike rider.

Most get ag registered to begin with and at a later date they just change the taxation class. Saves faffying about with type approval. Bit like a lot of the trikes built, they register them as invalid ( no sva or whatever it is now) and later change taxation class to private.

To many quad means off road utility/agri type that can be driven on the road but the 100% road based units look to be completely different beasts with big motors and I would imagine they are far better set up for tarmac.

Yep to go round corners fast you need to power slide them through or they try to rip the bars out your hand..once you have grew bigger testicles they can be so much fun

mums got one registered as farm equip, so no mot or tax.


uses it to tow a tipping trailer around, a chain harrow and a roller. and occasionally to town to pick feed up.

useful little thing, but she is frightening when riding it on the road, shes going to get herself killed with her terrible road positioning. but, she wont be told.....

My mate had the predecessor 660 it was great fun in the quad track but awful on the road I was on my old supermoto with three quads and following them one sunny Saturday and one of my mates flipped after clipping a kerb(he was so used to being on his bike) broke his shoulder blade

Test ride one or do a days off roading on one and the novelty wears off really quick

Thats nothing to do with the quad though, but the tawt riding it.

A £100,000 open top Morgan sports cars is as useless as a quad in heavy rain and traffic queue, if you look at the logic and practicality of it all.

hahaha talking about quads I had a grizzly me and partner lived in a 5th wheel home at snarestone was great for a few years till council got involved and way back to the quad bike well I kept it in a shed and what did I do I revved it up so it would go in the shed and haha I went straight through the other side of the shed that was funny every one laughing

Friend of mine had one of those ‘Red Rocket’ 2 stroke engined Honda trikes way back in the eighties, and that was an odd thing to steer, until you had the cajones to get on the throttle and get the back end hanging out on bends.

It had the thumb lever throttle too, as you hung out the side when cornering hard and a twist grip just wouldn’t work.

Road ones should have a centre dif so you dont have to do this.

Unlikely you'd have a centre diff on a trike.

On a quad surely it's the rear diff that stops you having to hang the rear out?

Center of rear axle. Most road quads are 2wd.
