Can anybody tell me what a quad bike is registered as?

Daughter and I are trying to work this out, google is no use, so anybody know what are they registered as, a car, bike, or do they have their own category?

I quite like the idea of them, one with a decent motor and big tyres, but I’m sure the novelty would wear off, first time I was stuck in traffic and everybody was gawping, and it started raining....and all the bikes were filtering past me...

I assume Car, as you need a full licence or Cat B1 if you passed before 1997.

I’ll check what ours is registered as when I get a chance..

Yep to go round corners fast you need to power slide them through or they try to rip the bars out your hand..once you have grew bigger testicles they can be so much fun

Must be a car as one time I was in getting my MOT they were doing a quad, I remarked that I didn't realise they did bike MOTs and they said they don't, its a quad so same as a car.

Friend of mine had one of those ‘Red Rocket’ 2 stroke engined Honda trikes way back in the eighties, and that was an odd thing to steer, until you had the cajones to get on the throttle and get the back end hanging out on bends.

It had the thumb lever throttle too, as you hung out the side when cornering hard and a twist grip just wouldn’t work.

4 wheel light vehicle, upto 400kg. Reverse has nothing to do with it. Similar to those micro cars. Many are agri registered which makes it easier, as many of the cheaper ones do not have type approval therefore require an msva test. Others have european approval but wouldnt have a hope in hell of passing an msva test.

Unless or of an age to have an old bike license....then you get B1. Hence the popularity of the olastic pig back in the day.

Off road they are useful bits of kit, find the instinct to lean or put your leg out a bit scary being used to a off road bikes.
On roads they are pointless apart from showing off, a bicycle can go round a sharp bend quicker.
I may be biased as a noiser tosser up the road has one, which I can lose in a 20yr focus on a roundabout

I used to have a Honda 400 quad. They are classed as a car for driving licence rules. For road tax they are a quadricycle. You need a B licence to drive on the road but be careful of having road legal tyres, lights etc. Technically you don’t need to wear a skidlid but this is likely to change due to the number of deaths from head injuries.
There are many good reasons I no longer own it. They are the worst of all worlds, can’t filter like on a motorbike, no heater or weather protection like a car. Thirstier than Oliver Reed. Parts stupidly expensive. People look at you like you’re a complete t*t.

Thats off road track and loads of fun no doubt, a 400cc cart or less would show a clean pair of heels.
Just think they are pointless on public roads, as are trikes. None of the benefits of a car in poor weather and none of the benefits of getting through traffic.
