Worked perfectly well for me running an Oxford Bantam 180 oil cooled welder through a Chinese welding rectifier.
Gives me AC/DC TIG and stick with variable electrode polarity if required.
I have an old Oxford oil cooled stick welder, which doesn't get much use since I bought my Mig. I've stumbled across this conversion box and wondered if it would be suitable for creating a stainless motorcycle exhaust. Tec Arc TIG Start 180i HF TIG Box If it works, then it's a cheap option...
The piv of the rectifier needs to far exceed the open circuit voltage of the welders output. It’s current rating needs to exceed the rated current of the welder too…otherwise…it’s phuttt as it goes short circuit…
Choose wisely young Skywalker….
Where are you located?
If you are anywhere near Frome I've got a 220a tec-arc add on ac/dc tig unit going cheap but it's pretty heavy so postage might be expensive!
FleaBay special, at somewhere around the 20-30 quid mark.
You'll need a rare old heat sink for it, though. I'm using a 9" x 9" x 3/4" slab of ally, with the rectifier bolted to it with heat sink compound smeared between.
The digital aquarium thermometer reading from the heat sink has been informative....
