camlock 1/4 turnfastners or other types I haven't a clue

I'm building a race car I want to use quick release fastners where possible but most of them seam very bulky and cumbersome. I came across camlock 1/4 turnfastners there bloody expensive dose anyone used them and know what fastners to use with reciptical or and other neat look one to use any help would be great

I normally look at fancy fasteners on probolt then find some eBay knock offs for half the price.

How many parts will you have that actually need to be quickly removed? How big will they be?

If it's a panel in the boot over a fuel pump then just taking out the 8 existing bolts and only refitting 4 with wing nuts will be quick ish and cheap.

If it's a whole front clam section then you will need something more heavy duty.

You can often half the amount of fasteners by fixing one end/side of a panel with slot-in pins then just lock one side of it.
Check the rule book for racing as there may be requirements for specific things, flush mounted etc.

1/4 turn fasteners can be homemade, bit of tube with a pin through as the female side and a button head bolt that you attack with a dremel to make the male side. Not sure if I would go to the effort though as its not that expensive to buy them.
Even fancy things like aero catches look expensive but when you can have a bonnet held on by 4 of them and it will only take you an hour to fit and adjust them they are probably worth saving up to buy rather than spending hours faffing around making your own.

A good source of stuff like that is a military surplus dealer/shop. The m.o.d seem quite happy to fit £100's worth of aerospace grade catches onto cases to transport catering equipment and you can find a lot of nice stuff there

You get different peg lengths to compensate for reach

Camloc fasteners are made in a variety of styles and designs. Included among the most commonly used are the 2600, 2700, 40S51, and 4002 series in the regular line, and the stressed panel fastener in the heavy duty line. The latter is used in stressed panels which carry structural loads.
We used them on the spoilers of hill clime cars they would hold even if the rest of the spoiler was shredded

Look for aircraft camlock fittings a fair few Co do them
There are dozens of types, lengths, lock plates, butterfly, strait slot, finger wheels

The C130 was held together with camloks though!

It depends on the application but where a Dzus fastener was used Camlocs are inceasingly used, though there is more of a move away from having removable panels externally that would have once been held on with a QRF.

Yep, used them myself. They have very good customer service. Mind you I was ordering for a major European aircraft manufacturer!
