What's that supposed to mean? People who excel at their hobby and take the time to show it off to the world, to encourage others to strive to excel themselves should be celebrated not denigrated as they add positively to society and the goodwill of all.

Exactly what I said. His workmanship and patience are exceptional.
Someone unless in the higher realms such as instrument and mega precision slip and use short cuts and can lack the love to create such work. Look at model engineering for example, impossible to recreate in a commercial environment.

I haven't taken offence, though I do admit I read more into your last comment than it seems there was so for that I apologise. It was rather open to interpretation though. There's nothing wrong with disagreeing though, some monumental discoveries have come from it and often it's far preferable to mundane back-slapping.

You will find that generally I will only link to someone's home page/website if I think there's something positive to be had from it. From what I can see and what little I know from meeting THAT guy, everything about him is up-beat and positive though a more modest and self-effacing guy you'd be unlikely to meet. More people should be like him the world would be a much nicer place.

The whole "professional" thing makes me laugh - "John has just had his car converted proffessionally" - implying it must be a good, or better job than someone who does it himself, gets my goat a bit.
I'm rebuilding a Yamaha Vmax 1200 trike - came with a stack of bills from someone running a business specialising in these things - £thousands, and I mean thousands spent fitting special this, special that, then , according to its history, a replacement engine - actually a worn out heap. And what of all the "special bits"? No sign of them.
Carburettors - simple things, but need to be treated with care and precision - one look at them - screws butchered, badly out of sync, threads stripped. But it must be OK cos it was done "professionally".
Anyway, gripe over, not casting aspersions on any pros on here.

Ran out of glue so couldn’t finish doing names.
This should be light so casting price should be sensible, probably not though

Problem is they are professional casters for decorative work, sadly so much skill has been lost that it has become considered top quality work.
So finding a proper firm is very hard.

Your patterns are superb, I've just read this thread and thoroughly enjoyed it, apart from the problems with foundry castings of course.

Seems like this would be a problem for everyone wanting machine grade iron castings these days.

Is it not a case of "your castings aren't up to quality so I won't be paying" type thing?

The "quality" foundry that wanted another £500 - those ones are ok? so they cost more, is it not still worth it? Sorry, just trying to wrap my head around it all.

Will they not work with you to get the quality that you want?

@mankul I think you can work with "quailty" people. But I am sure that the way @pressbrake1 has been treated is far removed from that, in fact i'd go as far as to say the bloke is a vulgar term used to descibe a vagina/vulva.

Doesn’t even have to be bean counters, university students with a degree in history, art or some other useless study, without a real interest or passion for engineering.

I worked at a place where the head of development had a English degree from Cambridge .
Frightful snob and would pull you up on missing out a comma but had zero interest or knowledge in engineering and the mathematical ability of a junior school child so was of no use other than a editor to make sure report syntax was spot on. Bizarre
Another place I subbed for the drawings were wrong and they thought I’d suffer the costs.
I challenged about it to be told they must be correct Elliott has a degree. On speaking to Elliott he had a very poor pass in media studies.....ffs

I worked with a young lad who had left Teeside uni with a 1st masters in Aeronautics. Very very nice lad, was like a sponge for information. Knew how everything should be, but didn't have a clue how it get to that point.
