Well of course: but I bet it's only down to the 'feel' or 'action' of them. I've had some of the cheapies in our calibration lab at work and within their capabilities they are just as accurate as £200 Mitu's (assuming you stick to the 2 decimal places). It's the quality of the sliding parts that makes the difference in use.

What's all the hate for batteries? I've had the same battery in my mitutoyos for 5 years now and it's very rare for me to remember to turn them off.

It wouldn't matter if you did turn them off; like a telly they go into standby and continue to draw current when not in use - otherwise they would never remember where they were when you turned them off. Chances are also that Mitutoyo's electronics are better quality than the Cheapnese ones and use less power.

You can adjust the 'gib' strip to give a bit more resistance if you find your caliper is as slack as an ex-wife...

its not that . if u go to set them on a particular setting say ten thou it jumps to 10 and a half real quick turn it back and before u know it its 9 and a half not ten

Largely so! Also the confidence that they'll actually zero as I don't like the cummulative function that is so easy to enable on the digital ones.

Either way they are usually on when I go to use them.

I'd imagine the electronics are much better, that's why I bought em.

I call them precision adjustable spanners.

Prefer vernier calipers since I ALWAYS forget to turn digital ones off, they are invariably flat on me.
Mitutoyo verniers are lovely, my go-to set.
Anything requiring more accuracy, you use a micrometer anyway.

I always try to refer to the digital ones as digital calipers and the vernier ones as vernier calipers.

Me too. It just highlights the fact that people don't think about the words that they're using. Too prevalent these days, sadly

I get a few people calling a Stilson wrench a "stilsense"
