Brundles isn't the cheapest but probably alot cheaper than metal4u. Pnly downside is postage is payable. If you ring they will give you a better deal.

brundles works on meterage so sometimes you get longer lengths like 3 5 6 7 meters all depends on what your wanting to pay always take note of the costs
sometimes buying a full length is cheaper than buying half the length

Possibly an odd first post - I use 1stchoicemetals.co.uk/ - not connected, just a happy customer. They offer a 'free first cut' so if you need 2 x 1000mm, order the cheaper (per metre) 2000mm and get it cut in half, of course, it'll be less the blade width.

Well, probably not the cheapest, but and it is a big but, they have sourced me some very specialist stuff and when nothing else will do I am more than happy to pay if I am getting the right gear: http://www.m-machine-metals.co.uk
I just email Lynn with what I need and she gets back to me, usually the same day, with price and availability. The run of the mill stuff like spring steel sheet in it's annealed state and gunmetal they keep on the shelf. If you just want three foot of EN24T 2" round they will supply from stock. Obviously if you want lengths of box section angle and plate this is likely not the place, but for the oddball stuff it is perfect.

Another +1 for Brundles. I must be their smallest customer but they've always gone out of their way for me - a couple of months ago I wanted a large alu chequered plate but it was showing out of stock. When I emailed them they said they would hold the price for me until they could get one and, when it finally came in, the price had gone up from £110 to £150 but they were as good as their word. Delivered next day for £110 plus the tenner delivery.

I use Brundles too for pure convenience. Unless I want big heavy I or H girders, then I use my rep from the builders merchant. As hes not the cheapest, but to the door hes comparable with our local stock holder as delvery is free.
agreed, the delivery is an important consideration, not much use for the OP, but for the French members, I use "maison du fer", most of the time they're the best prices, and delivery is only 55 euros, doesn't matter if it's one length or a truck load... they're basically just a reseller, so they negociate the best prices I've found. The amount I'm getting through at the moment, and the way prices have skyrocketed it definitely pays to check around...
For comparison, our local place is the same 55, and they're only 20km away.... I've had steel come from all over for 55 euros. Makes no sense.
