buying a cnc plasma over making one?

I been thinking about building one for a while but time is limited and I would find I hard to get the build finished. I seen them on ebay now in the 4000 pound range anyone bought one or know of a cheaper one as this is a bit out of my range. I have the hypertherm plasma all ready.

If time is limited then building one is not the way to go.
I built a CNC Router / Plasma Cutter a few years ago and the setting up and fine tuning the machine took just as long as building it!

hi whensparksfly, if you don't have time to build your own, and you don't want to buy a cheap crap one from ebay.
you could look into getting one build for yourself.

there is a few guys on a CNC based forum that know soo much and more about cnc's
and build them too.
i know one that is up north that builds cnc's for other forum members and the like.
i know he is fairly busy, so there proberly be a wait time for him to get to your build.

Had a look at the esab crossbow, gave them a call to find out a price etc, what a disaster! all i wanted was a price, got passed from one dept to the next, no one knew the part number, its made to order sir, you've no account so i cant give you a price etc etc gave up in the end lol still don't know the price!

Hi Cnc plasma ? I imported one from China !! Yes it's good it's a hi-cut 400 I made the bed with fan extraction using a RTec inverter and it cuts 16 mm 2x1 meter bed but I have a longer arm to cut 2x2 meter fast cam software few teething probs but works a treat .

it would be interesting to know too.

i can see from reading many of the guys threads that he always says buy good quality parts.
dont waste your money on the tat on ebay etc.
your get some many problems, your go grey and pull your hair out etc etc.

so i would imagine he would only use top end parts for hassle free cnc'ing.
but as you know good quality parts come at a price.

I was offered a 4 foot square table with torchmate electronics but have no cash.

I got it all working for a guy but I think he has sold it now. he was supposed to be keeping it and I was hoping to get cheap parts.) Lol

But he was going to use sheetcam how does that compare with fast cam?

Sheetcam....brilliant!!!!

Also just read the above threads...I bought my steppers, drivers, leadscrews, rails, bearings, etc. etc. all off EBAY and mostly direct from China...never had a single problem and they've worked hard for a couple of years now. Only real problem I had was with the plasma cutter...changed to Hypertherm..never looked back.

Price does not mean better...most of the UK suppliers get their stuff from China and then add 300% to the price.............
