Buying 2nd hand spray guns?

I've been looking for a better spray gun and been considering a new Devilbiss FLG5, but I was wondering about buying second hand instead, then I could possibly afford something like a GTI Pro Lite instead. Are there any pitfalls with buying used sprayguns, any particular things to look out for? I suppose they could be clogged up, or the nozzle cap and tip needs replacing if it's been badly maintained. Or am I overlooking something?

My go to is an old Aerograph I found in the tip, absolutely clogged with paint, ancient thing...

I’d buy a gti pro or pro lite second hand but not an original gti.I think the pro verision is less likely to be damaged if the fluid tip is over tightened. The seal inside the air cap nut/collar wasn’t available separately and really needs to be intact if buying second hand

I like the ANI guns, and they get good reviews. Nozzle kits not too expensive and there is the extra cheap budget versions that are compatable for spares. The GF3 makes a great mini primer gun with the tip opened out. R160 mini gun or F160 full size.

Generally used devilbiss current models are still very expensive and there are a lot of very convincing Devilbiss fakes to be avoided. The fakes, some of them get reasonable reviews and would make good guns if they were given their own branding. Worth considering as some are very cheap, but parts are not interchangeable with the real ones.

Nozzle/tip kits can be very expensive for devilbiss which put me off buying a used gun.

I'm mostly in need of a gun for base coat and clear coat, clear coat in particular I think is the area which is most important. I've heard of ANI but for some reason I have this trusting impression of Bevilbiss as a brand and I think that's Gunmans fault

I have cheapo guns in 1.4 and 1.8 for primer. But I'd like to have a good quality gun to see what a difference it makes, if any. I have several future projects where I would like a better resut than I've gotten so far.

EDIT: If I were to buy new I can buy Devilbiss locally over the counter by the way, at a price that's within spitting distance of sprayguns direct.

The R160/F160 are good quality guns. To be honest the results I had on my bike came out perfectly, only problem was insects.

This guy has some good comparisons, although he has way to much kit for a normal hobbiest.

Always liked and used dvb suction guns, can't get on with top feed, what you get used to I suppose.
Used jga for years one primers other top coats

At the moment I am using 2k clear and I have metallic 1k base coats, for my cars both which need work. I use mostly a brand called "EN". But this can all change, particularly the paint choice. I might paint my bike too, it's more rust than paint now.

If you browse some eBay auctions, some photos show guns that, whilst used, have nice clean undamaged parts etc.

...whilst some may be clean but the holes clearly show that someone has dug at the with a pick!

I would buy the former, not the latter.

I don't really rate the A.N.I as it has an inconsistent fan and needs lots of pressure, I'm using water based furniture paint though, might be different with automotive paint.

The FLG5 is a nice gun, I don't see how I'd get any better with what I'm spraying.

The gti pro lite is the most faked gun around, I certainly wouldn’t buy a second hand one as they are hard to tell from the genuine item. I use a couple of FLG5’s, one for primer, another for base and then a GTi Prolite for topcoat.

I've never used a suction pot, but the ability of gravity guns to use every bit of paint is important to me.

That is one of their much cheaper version. Same body, interchangeable parts, but the nozzle is made as cheap as possible. Their main models have much better nozzle/ air caps.
