I've just read this thread http://www.mig-welding.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=27794 with interest! A couple of years ago looking to upgrade my Clarke MIG I purchased a "Butter (or Not) AMT 170C" thinking I was actually getting a much better welder. Having immediately sold my Clark MIG on eBay there was no going back.
I must say I have been none too impressed with the Butters drive mech. The Clarke was far superior with much better control and stability. The Butters one is noisy and made with loads of plastic. The welder is full of capacitors ( I note the comment that true Butters welders have none).
My questions are:
What did I actually pay a load of money for?
Have I just purchased a re-badged Chinese £100 MIG Welder.
Would I be better off selling it on eBay and buying a Clarke again?
Thoughts, opinions and comments please?
