I have been doing some practice welds before I tackle a couple of repairs on my car. I am wondering though whether this machine will be ok, I think it might be a little to powerful. It's range is 30-170 and I have been using it on the lowest setting using 0.6 wire and practicing on some thin sheet. I have found that it is almost impossible to get a run going without blowing holes in when doing a butt weld. The best method seems to be to make some spot welds and gradually work along the edges, it makes lovely spot welds but it is difficult to fill in the tiny hole that are missed. Should I look for a welder with a lower setting, and if so what should I be looking for, or should I give this one a go and just take my time? I would be most grateful for someone with more experience than me to offer some advice.
Thanks very much.
