Hi,
Has any one any tips for butt welding technique?
I`m welding a volkswagen up, and i`ve got reasonably good at lap welds and plug welds, but i`d like to get good at butt welding too so that i don`t have visible joints behind the panels.
i`m using a SIP 105 migmate with argoshield lite. I`ve also invested in some of these clamps from frost -
they hold the patch in perfect alignment with gap (you can see in the picture) between the two pieces.
with my welder on the lowest setting, i can get tacks between the sheets of metal, but i just can`t seem to get a smooth bead between the pieces. If i turn up the setting to next power level (still very low!), i get a better bead, but i burn holes even if i do a stop start technique.
If anyone has tips for this, it`d be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Mike
