Hmmmn... I tried running my transit on rapeseed oil with no adaptions just threw it in the tank standard setup. It worked. But it smelt like a chip shop.

Not long after the price of the oil practically doubled. So wasn't worth it.

Local forklift manufacturer here in Ireland have switched to diesel generators and are saving around 8k a week!

which transit? the 2.5di aren't great on it but they're ok.... any of the newer 2.4 are no good (mk6, mk7 and mk8 transits)

I don't know the reason why.... but it doesn't burn completely and gums up the piston rings and ruins the oil really quickly

It was an old banana engine type. Manual injection.

those old banana engines were awesome, I had a turbo one once, it was really nice to drive

the mk6 and mk7 transits must cost me 10x more in maintenance than those old mk6 :-(

Oh aye. They would pull a car on a trailer and not even notice in power that you were pulling something (obviously you would but just a fraction) . The vans there self's were good handling all things considered compared to the newer ones Imo. Felt a lot more glued to the road.

I've blown a few up, but I thrashed the backside off them. Managed to close the door on a skip full of stuff with a few chains once, you know them big skips with doors on. Indestructible them vans.

when I was a kid they were only serviced at MOT time, new filters and oil....

normally we'd check them before the MOT and there's be no water in the heater tank and no oil on the dip stick.... they just kept going and going

Oh these werent warm in the slightest, this was 81-83' COLD winters. Dead stop to Max in the blink of an eye

I'm sure if you buy red for agriculture you need a "Holding number" to show you're a proper farmer.

I buy red, usually 1000 ltrs a time, never been asked for a holding number.

There's one a lot like that (2MW) sitting in a room in a Factory not far from me, waiting to be installed/commissioned by our lot in the near-future.
The Factory bought it 2nd-hand from somewhere - it's an SDMO-built lump with a separate cooling-pack for the MTU Lump.

I've still got a 22-yr-old LDV Convoy with a Ford 2.5di & box in it with150k miles. Aficionados say they'll do a LOT more.
(The van does have more plates than a Banquet Dinner Service in it mind )

Heavy fuel oil, there obviously really worried about emissions!

The other thing that springs to mind if this become “ popular”……. emissions. Low tech diesels banging away are not the most eco friendly things.

Neither are 20mph zones and speedhumps.,but they keep cropping up.

It’s a f******g disaster is what it is mate. Kids will get run over because people will be watching their speedometers not the road, pollution will increase, congestion will increase. And quell surprise so will speeding ticket sales.
F*****g asshats Welsh Gov and Plaid Cymru. And people actually think we should have autonomy for Wales, with this lot in charge? And, don’t forget, they will be there forever, given the voting demographic and anti -Tori rhetoric being doled out by the UK media atm.

They were only worried about getting power, all big engines run on heavy fuel/distillate, same on ships. horrible stuff.

I know, Ive bathed in it accidentally a few times. Some modern ships now burn mdo to comply with emission rules
