bussmann fuse wtd

hello to all any sparkys on here?iam after a bussmann bbs-1 fuse (1amp@600v fast blow)were is the best place to buy one from without haveing to get a bank loan for it? £20 is the average uk price i can find for a single fuse! or is it a case of useing a same rateing but a differant size/style mounting?

hi,its 35mm long and 10mm in diammeter, just like a standerd house hold plug fuse but bigger....

I can understand why there is a need for large current SLOW blow fuses but a 1 Amp fast blow??

Most normal fuses are fast blow in that they have no thermal tolearnce: Exceed the current and bang its gone!

What are protecting: An electric, mains powered toothbrush??

yes spot-on its for a multi meter,if its going to be a pain(and so expensive!) to get one i will use a more standerd size fuse and modifie the fitting on the board to except it.

You really want to keep the right fuse as the currents involved if you do something stupid are very very high and the fuse is the only thing that stops is blowing up in your face. You must have done something wrong to blow it. Get the proper fuse and learn from your mistake

Have got fuse from Farnell \ CPC for meters before voltage not a problem usually
as fuse only in Amp Ma circuits the current is the controlling factor

Yes, it's very important that you fit the right fuse - they are "HRC" (High Rupture Capacity) which means that the explosion which you would otherwise get from sticking the meter on the amps range across the mains will be contained within the fuse instead of removing your face!

Voltage also matters as if you use a lower voltage one you can't guarantee that it will actually break the circuit when presented with 600 volts across it. At least make sure it has a rating better than the highest voltage you anticipate to measure with the meter.

well iam now going fit a fuse of the same rateing but just slightly smaller for pennys, pee take at the best part of £20 for a fuse,as thay say two ways of skining a cat.
