Burning gear hoses

Hi

What's the best way to preserve them when not in use for a length of time?

They are inside . Will the not eventually crack up.

drain the gas from them , so not left pressurised , and cover them up and out of direct sun light , dry and warm , thats about all i can think of , no sharp bends in them .

keep them out of sunlight, solvents, chemicals etc
They are a consumable item with a lifespan, though, they need replaced now and again.

what u will find is after a few years where they come out of the arrestors or reg and bend over they will crack . just cut them back 6 inches and the rest is perfect for years. im on my second set of new ones 30 years and before anyone says there crimped on mine aren't. there on with jubilee clips on the tails whether your supposed to or not

just dont join the breaks in the acetylene hose with copper pipe and jubilee clips , and all will be grand .

That is disgraceful keeping hoses that length of time.
I wouldn't dream of keeping them that long.

Mine are only 25 years young

One thing I've noticed is modern hoses doesn't last as long as the old stuff. I have some rubber hoses in a box from my mums shop (it closed in 95) still in perfect condition. Then I have some I bought from #cough# Machine Mart for my blast cabinet that are disintegrating.

mm hoses aren't the best. just bought one from screwfix erbouer and it looks good time will tell the oxyacet hoses are a good make cant remember who now

As BS, these days you just have to treat the hoses as consumable, nowhere near the quality of yesteryear, The days of hoses lasting twenty years plus have gone!!

Why would anyone have cause to complain? Anything after the regulator is low pressure. Even burning through 3" plate, you probably only need 20 psi oxygen.

The only disadvantage of jubilee clips over ear clips is ergonomics: they snag on stuff a bit easier.

Goodyear hose is top stuff.

I use them same as everyone else but they are not ideal for smaller pipe as they don't pull into a circle. When I was in the foundry burning with gas on a pipeline from a big tank we used proper pipe clips that were circular, like the fuel pipe clips in cars.

I have had to change hoses about every 5 years.

O2 and propane!


Propane hoses will always go first - something in propane attacks pipes.

Oh... +1 for ear clips.
