Hi All.
Like most 'sensible' persons I refuse to pay $6K for a sliding gate and decided to buy galvanised mild steel $500 and the cheapest Unimig Gasless 120 Amp welder $300
The issue I am experiencing is burn through, even before I even get a bead to push I am now resorting to multiple tack welds, as without a bead I am welding blind and end up messing up my steel. I tried all temp ( wire thickness) and and wire speed settings with no improvements
The joints I welded with my own technique looks god awefull , but with a sanding disc and a grinder cleans up ok.
I have serious doubts on whether enough penetration was achieved , so hopefully with some guidance I can improve and do a second pass .
Welder - Unimig Viper 120 Gassless
Wire - 0.8mm fluxed core
wire stick out - approx 2cm's
angle - 10 deg - maybe -
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated
Andre
