BURISCH or Clarke?

Cheers Daz, mines going to be situated in the brick shed extension on the back of my garage so like you noise shouldn't be an issue. I might look at getting a DA sander but mainly its going to be used for spraying..

I have since given up using an air da and now have a mirka ceros electric da and would recommend this as a very good system and it saves using a 3hp motor to run a sander as it is much less electrical usage and much quieter, but the compressor can supply enough air for a da sander just works hard and the sander is very noisy, in fact it's the only tool I have used that has aroused suspicion by the neighbours.

My burisch gets used for spraying as well as a da sander and a die grinder ect, up to now it's performed perfectly for what I want, it's in my double garage and the noise is not too intrusive. My da sander is also a burisch and the compressor has no problem keeping up although it does run a lot but gets up to full pressure within about 30 seconds of finishing, all in all very happy with its performance for the price.

I've been watching a mirka on a auction site for a month or so now, very tempted but pricey.. Good to know that there good!

Quick update, had a email back from Burisch this morning answering my question regarding the duty cycle of the motor:

Our technician has said no, S3 25% rating. Hope this helps

So for anyone searching for info on these compressors, currently the motor there using have a Intermittent periodic duty of 25%, Sequential, identical run and rest cycles with constant load. Temperature equilibrium is never reached. Starting current has little effect on temperature rise.

I have the 3hp Bursich one. Capacitor went and was fixed under warranty - fixed free of charge but had tp get it back to north london at my expense - can't complain because I got it for a very good deal. Nice and quiet compared to my direct drive 2hp SIP....

Collected the Clarke SE16C100, time I got home I had a VAT free voucher through the door i knew it was due at some point. oh well at least i can get some other stuff next week while I have the money.

Anyway had one problem with the compressor, I set it up temporary in the garage, was just about to turn it on but decided to double check the oil level. I couldnt see anything in the site glass, phoned clarke technical and they advised there shipped with the oil drained so I need to get some. So drove to MM, got some oil asked the store manager where the fill point is, I assumed it was the black breather pipe but he advised it was the bung labeled oil located between the compressor and fly wheel.. So got home, looked at the fill point labelled oil, and wondered how the hell I was going to undo that. I got two fingers down to it, with very little pressure it snapped off on closer inspection, it had previously been glued on so obviously snapped off in factory and had a crap fix. Phoned Clarke and they said nothing to do with them and advised to phone MM, so I did. The chap I spoke to said no problem he'll get a new one sent out. I managed to melt the bung back together using a red hot screwdriver and now a hell of a lot stronger than before.
Checked n this forum and yes the black breather is the fill point oh well, so in goes the oil and still nothing on the site glass after a whole litre, wtf sprung to mind. So drained the oil back into the container to my surprise it was still coming out after the 1 litre container was full!, turns out it did have oil in but was overfilled! unreal, all that hassle for nothing

Finally powered it up and really impressed with it, louder than the monstrous silent compressor I built, by around 14dB but to be fair the clarke is safer and more reliable and not that loud to be honest, had it running for 10 minutes with all valves open like stated in the manual, closed the garage door and you can still hear it but not intrusive to the neighbours..

I am wondering what difference would it make putting thick rubber pads under the compressor unit and motor? it seems to me most of the noise comes from the air receiver resonating from the motor? Looking back to the silent compressor build and I had rubber everywhere and removed all vibration resonating noises. Again I not that bothered how loud it is as eventually its going in the brick shed once the epoxy floor paint has cured, but every little helps as they say!

I bought some adjustable rubber isolator feet for mine, that way you can set the machine at a slight angle so the water drain is at the lowest point.

Yeah I got some of them, think without them it would move around the garage on its own :-)

Last time I had the head off mine I did a bit of trial and error balancing the flywheel with stick on wheel weights, made a difference as it is a little quieter and smoother. I also have a 6N2 VW Polo air filter to fit remotely in an attempt to reduce induction roar and make it a bit quieter.

Bummer with the Vat free voucher, take it back!

I used someone else's vat voucher so alls good, just funny mine turned up when I got in.

Will have a fiddle when it's in the shed, nxt week!
