Friend bought a Renault Twizzy
The local dealer wrote to him saying it was due a service including pollen filter bit worrying as doors are an extra & there is no heater all for £127 don't know if this included VAT but no parts.
Was also went for a free safety check 19 miles each way & asked if they could check track (not for free) No he was told we don't have the equipment we send it to tyre place & this is a major Renault dealer
I find this sad as when I was in the trade we did most things in house except for machining

I know of people who supply their own oil to their Dealers for an oil change. As long as it's on the list of manufacturers approved oils, the garages are fine with it - check with yours first 'though.

Why would you want a heater on vehicle that doesn't have any doors?
I knew of a garage that had a "bulk supply of distilled water" - supplied by Yorkshire Water and dispensed above a stainless fixture next to the fridge in the kitchen.

A long long time ago when I worked in garages the oil supplier paid for the ramp maintainence contract it must have been a long time ago as the oil was duckhams qxr !!! I still have an unopened 5ltr plastican somewhere ,is it like champagne and I call it vintage and use it ?

My local mech refers to them as main stealers. ....
Mind you some factors are as bad.... couple of weeks ago I had to serve both passats, parts and 'main brand' oil (shell or castrol. .. can't remember ) for 40% less than another national factors with 'cheap' oil and less than half the main stealers price for the same parts

I used to be a mechanic and have worked at both main dealers and small independents, judging by peoples opinions I guess I was less qualified and more likely to rip people off when working for the dealers.

will just be whatever they got a good deal on , sometimes not even the correct spec or grade and they just slop it in everything

Check how much oil your engine takes and compare it to the bill. An Audi dealer charged a friend of mine for anywhere between 4.2 and 5 litres of oil in his A4 1.8 at each service when it only takes 3.9 litres, he managed to get a backdated refund.

My olds had that - they told the place not to renew - by the time the next service came around, they had actually put on weight!
WMO has a positive market value now.

I wonder how many garages charge a 'disposal' fee on something they then sell on - is that the same as a mark-up on parts, or is that verging on dishonesty?

I own a garage, and waste oil sells at about 9p a litre in bulk.
But I have to pay to get rid of everything else.
Wet rags and filters (expensive)
Waste fuel (very expensive)
Antifreeze (expensive)
Batteries (free ish, have to pay for waste notes)
Scrap metal (I will end up paying to get rid of it).
Scrap cars (I have paid to get rid of them of late)
Dry waste (1100ltr bins not cheap)
Tyres (price OK but every time I get to work, someone has dumped some at my gate, so I end up paying to get rid of someone else's)
Gear oil (not that bad cost wise).
While I don't charge a disposal fee (except for tyres). If you had the bills I have to pay. You would not think selling a bit of waste oil was dishonest.
