There is body soluble wool which isnt a health risk like the ceramic wool is, as long as you cover it with at least a rigidiser to stop it floating around the forge your ok. Year the high temp bricks are expensive, you could make your own though like sardine mentions above, just make sure they are fully cured and have no air pockets. I will probably make some for the forge floor.
I used an SDS drill on the mould to vibrate it which released a lot of air bubbles, you also need to fire it slowly at first to cure the bricks.
