Builders bucket-is there a next size up?

I have this tree currently in a builders bucket. Was put there until I have prepared the planting area.

The tree has outgrown the bucket. I don't want to use a floppy tub that does not have rigidity. Is there something available about twice as big as a builders bucket?

Psst ! Try a hole in the garden , the more you take out of it the bigger it gets .

Seriously .. Why not prune it properly take the thing out the pots as well and prune the roots . That's what Bonsai folk do some times with trees as big as a few inches tall right up to six foot or so taller . All these tubs unless big cut down stainless steel beer barrels don't last long , especially the posh pretty garden centre ones about three feet high ..they usually split when well frosted though you can get ones that won't but they will be very expensive

A cut down IBC in its frame with several 10 mm drainage holes 60 mm up the sides and a layer of drainage gravel can easily be pallet planked out around the sides to become an attractive painted /stained square tubs that will last years , sit the IBC on a few rows of bricks to get it of the ground to stop it rusting through . . Or you could dry stack bricks round the sides to make it look solid .

I've use a full sized enamelled chip free cast iron bath for two plum saplings & loads of herbs filed with sandy soil and many buckets of rabbit poop , enclosed the sides in with clean reclaimed dry stacked bricks ..people said it look good ...my ex wife disagreed

310 litre barrels with the top carefully removed to leave the rim at the top might also be useful . I have a 150 litre light green screw top former chili paste barrel that Is over 10 yrs old down my garden ( off eBay ) , it cost me a £ 10 & £10 delivery ..it would take a decent sized tree if needed so long as side drain holes 60mm up from th bottom were put in


B&M recently had some very strong aesthetically pleasing UV resistant black tubs about 600 high by 600 in diameter with side " lip" handles & a pretty design around the side. , we got four about six years ago , to pot our cuttings host bonsai trees in . They are still going strong and being round can be edge rolled to move them even when full .

310 plastic blue food grade drums cut in half gives an unsupported softish edge/rim , we have the two halves from a failed tub experiment ..
Use one half with no ends in it to put the plastic bin bags in till bin day , the bin quickly became misshapen looking like a peanut at the height of the cross cut .
Other half was fitted with a plastic sink tap & is used as a safe easily drainable electrolytic de rusting tank or a hot soapy water tank but when empty it takes on the peanut shape at the cut rim . IMO a bad idea .

Good for at least two years , before it falls apart , £ 24 or so at a lot of garden centres , perhaps using three or four heavy duty bin bags as liners with several 10 mm drain holes in the bottom & standing the half barrel on bricks might extend the life of it .

I'm asuming you need to be able to move it in the containter as the planting area isn't ready yet. One of these should do it.
