Buffing corners

I have some 6mm Ally checker plate due which I need to make some plate inserts for a bullet proof vest for a comic convention Don't ask

Will I be better using a flap wheel or file and wet and dry to smooth the corners off

Also how can I put a slight bow in it without cracking the plate without a wheel or leaving hammer marks

Id go with a flap disc, to take the worst off, then if finish is important, a bit of sandpaper or fine emery.
As for the bow, would have been much easier if it were only 3mm

Id use two blocks of wood, either side (might need screwing/clamping down, then a rawhide mallet, or narrowish block of wood and a hammer down through the middle, moving the ally side to side after each pass.

Might be hard going if its quite a small bit.

As long as its not sharp its fine,it actually fits inside a flap on the vest front and back

Plates I need to make are F210x250 and B210x300

Bow wide it only needs the slightest of arcs,just enough to take it off flat

We made a bash plate for a KTM 200 a couple of weeks ago out of 5mm checker plate. We cut two Vs and bent it up then welded to get the shape and used a 60 grit fibre disc with a bit of WD 40 sprayed on to take the rough bits down.

You will need more than ally checker plate to ward of harpoon words. Truly the good heckler is a more fatal foe than the best trained assassin.

A fine flap disc (say 120 and make sure its waxed) will give you a nice finish on the edges' and 6 mm chech will take a lot of bending so sone worry about that

The easiest way to bend it is to get a piece of ply or mdf bigger than the piece of ally get another block of wood a couple an inch or so thick put it on the big piece put the ally on top (forming a ramp) and drive your car on to it, its how I bent 6mm checker plate for the seat base for my chop

The polishing/scotchbrite flap wheels weldequip has are great for it, I was using them on a few sheets the other month.
