With that budget you be looking at a soldering iron as cheap and good dont go together
the mig i have is the pulsed semi synergic one, it welds just fine but to be honest i do slightly wish i had just gotten a normal inverter mig. that said, i do like the simplicity of it. one annoying thing with it is that in normal mig mode it only has an option for 0.8mm wire, and to get the full 250 amps from it you would want atleast 1mm wire. you can set it up to run 1mm no problem just no actual paramaters for it, but it has 2 settings for ally and i think 2 settings for gasless as well. stick welding isnt fantastic with it, but it does do it. i prefer the tig welder for that. i do find with the 0,8mm wire, you need to set it hotter than you would expect to get a good weld, again, probably more accurate readings with 1mm wire in it. i have got a spool of 1mm just havent needed to use it yet.How do you find the hitbox machines, I’ll be in the market for a new mig shortly
You could pick up two oil filled transformers, one at each premises, just move the hf unit and rectifier about (and the gas of course)..Unfortunately, one thing the arrival of cheap Chinese ac/dc tig welders has done, is keep the decent brands holding value up.
So many stories of anything sub £800 going pop within days that people either hang onto the good stuff or get top money for it.
As suggested above, on that budget, if I wanted reliable, I'd get a transformer machine and a tig box for the workshop.
Reliable, powerful, and a better duty cycle than anything under £1500 as well.
Although they don't generally pass the portability test you could get a small oil-filled welder to run the tig box which might be bearable to load in/out a car occasionally.
Thanks BB, purely hobby welding for methe mig i have is the pulsed semi synergic one, it welds just fine but to be honest i do slightly wish i had just gotten a normal inverter mig. that said, i do like the simplicity of it. one annoying thing with it is that in normal mig mode it only has an option for 0.8mm wire, and to get the full 250 amps from it you would want atleast 1mm wire. you can set it up to run 1mm no problem just no actual paramaters for it, but it has 2 settings for ally and i think 2 settings for gasless as well. stick welding isnt fantastic with it, but it does do it. i prefer the tig welder for that. i do find with the 0,8mm wire, you need to set it hotter than you would expect to get a good weld, again, probably more accurate readings with 1mm wire in it. i have got a spool of 1mm just havent needed to use it yet.
i do consider it to be strictly a hobby machine though. the tig seems better built and the amps readout seems way more accurate on that than the mig
Its not even the cost of a full spec digital torch for a LorchThats not much more than the price of a water cooled torch for one of the premium brands
