budget digi vernier calipers?

Ive just brought a pair of moore and wright digital calipers. Paid about £18 brand new, very pleased with them

I seem to remember watching Tomorrows World sometime in the 1970's and it was about M&W who were on the bones of their a**e at the time, doing a last ditch development of, the then unheard of digital calipers. It seems they must have saved the company.

where did they come from?

My Aldi caliper branded as " Workzone " is only four or so months old .. It's far better than the unbranded one I got from there six years ago .
The off switch seems to stop all electrical flow , the old one didn't have such a luxury .

It's out in the garage wrapped in a bit of clean dry towel and slid inside a ziploc bag that has a couple of silicon dry packs inside .
it only come out to be used there & then , it then gets wiped clean & is put back in the towel & the bag to keep it free of crud.

Strip the thing down , clean absolutely everything with cotton buds etc & meths . Leave overnight ina warm airing cupboard to really dry it out , then reassemble ........ You may have picked up a microscopic bit of metal that is set in the reader casing rather than on the long slide bar or have a bit in the grove that the depth gauge runs in .

I had one of the workzone aldi ones for about 4 years without a problem. I can't remember what i paid for it but it was very cheap. It only stopped working right after it was dropped one day.

Ive got a Workzone one , Had it few a years now no probs. Its marked made in Germany, But then again it says OXO on the side of buses.
