The picture below is part of my CVA lathe. It takes the drive from the change gears into the feed gearbox.
The clutch allows this input to be disengaged when just using feeds (rather than threading). Feeding input to
the box is via a different input shaft which is belt driven.
My question concerns the ball races. All are 60 years old and although they feel ok (ish) I was intending to replace them.
In other bits of the lathe I've gone for SKF bearings, but here, the one bottom right in the picture (52x25x9) is about £60 from SKF/FAG etc.
The other two are both around a tenth of this price.
I can get a "budget" 52x25x9 at about £10. Are these OK or should I bite the bullet and go for an expensive SKF?
