Ok folks so what can i weld with this code, having spoken to someone at twi
This is the short letter that he has emailed me
Dear Mr. Moer,
I suggest that you check a few items on our Join IT web site, to clarify issues relating to welder and welding procedure approval. I have spoken to one of our Welding Engineers, and learned that some companies, for example in the offshore industry, require welding to be carried out to qualified procedures. Otherwise, there is no legal requirement. However, having welding carried out by qualified welders, working to qualified welding procedures shows that all reasonable steps have been taken to produce sound welds. If one of your fabrications was to suffer a weld failure during service, you would then be in a much stronger legal position than if you had not been working to qualified procedures.
could i reweld an eye back onto a fork truck tilt cylinder rod, or could i replace
a worn fork truck chain anchoage point, according to this letter it would not
be illegal but if they were to fail and it was because i did not follow a procedure which you dont have to with this code would it leave me more
liable to prosicution, there seems to be a lot of grey area with what exactly
you can weld with this code and what you cannot, if the original weld had a
procedure would the repair require the same procedure
I would suggest that without knowing how to prep joints correctly for welding,
also you would need to know about pre heating and metal types, you are not
qualified to weld these type of welds, this code is welding approval which is
can you weld correctly but it dont cover anything else
very grey cheers ocean
