Broken, patched up, inflated and now home.

As some of the members on this site know I am off work with two disc in my neck ruptured, resulting in a lot of use of my left arm and leg. As of last week I was on the “Urgent” waiting list for surgery.

Well, 2 hours ago I got home from hospital, not fixed. More of a patch up. Not a stich up. Yet.

Monday afternoon I sneezed. Next thing I am on the floor no sensation in my left arm and what felt like someone had used me as a in-line resistor for a 3 phase machine.

Blues and twos trip to hospital. Straight into surgery prep. Well 72 minutes of me reaching the building. Then drip in arm and a host of other devices attached to me. I then had key hole surgery to insert two bladders into my neck to hold the vertebra up and in place.

Yes I was awake during it all.

So I am home, due to go back and see the consultant on Friday to find out what happens next. I have most use of my arm and leg back, but not 100% and still in a lot of discomfort.

So, do I post this in “Today I acquired”, or start new post on bladder and inner tubes in the bike section?


Al Jesting and joking aside, I just wanted to say a BIG thank you to everyone in the hospital, the Paramedics in the ambulance(Sorry about the bad jokes) and the Paramedic on the bike who arrived first.

Makes all my hassles over the last few weeks (house move) seem like nothing. It often takes a big shake up for us blokes to get some perspective. I really hope you get better soon, nothing is more important than your health.

Hope all goes well when you see your consultant, I am still having pain problems when walking and I cant even begin to imaging what you must be going through with a back and arm problems thrown into the mix as well.

You have to watch those sneezes, sometimes a Gesundheit just isn't enough. Years ago a friend of mine slipped a disc in his neck sneezing, not as much damage as yourself but he was off work for 3 months and just last year another cracked a rib doing the same. Wishing you a full and fast recovery.

Thank you to all the words of support and encouragement. It is nice to know there is support.

I see the consultant on Friday and from there we se were we go.

I have tingly(like hitting your funny bone) done left arm and lower part of left leg and what feels like some one has rubed deep heat into the inside of arm. left leg and left ribs.

I am on a lot of pills, so I am rattling. Yes rattling good fit. (Salvage Squad reference)

I will keep you posted.

I blew a disk in my lower back, air ambulance, surgery next day, loads of lovely morphine, and a good long term result.

Sounds like they have done a top job. My dad is a Dr and spent a lot of time putting people back together ( most of the time it was Me he was putting back together), anyway He has some outrageous stories of stuff He has done to keep people going, I always have absolute admiration and respect for most of the NHS. Hope you get sorted soon @The_Yellow_Ardvark

When I had my spinal surgery they told me to lean flat against a wall if I had to sneeze. Has worked, so far.

Still no feeling in my right foot after 3 years but at least I can walk (like an MFI wardrobe) and bend far enough to just reach the bottom of my kneecaps.

It's dragging the wall around with you 'just in case' that's ******** everything else up.
