Briggs & Stratton carb bolt

Does anyone know what thread the carb fixing bolt is for the Briggs & Stratton Quattro 40? I seem to have lost mine in the grass somewhere
Pretty sure its imperial but not sure which imperial

Something UNC (sorry 13mm head, but 8mm diameter at threads)

Edit: they're should also be a short sleeve that may have vibrated off

I doubt that's UNF, UNC perhaps?

It's entirely possible, I tried a nut from the UNF box on it and it fit, but given the state of the garage it may have gotten mixed up, will double check in a sec,

If Briggs and Stratton is American and it's going into an ally casting then it'll almost certainly be UNC. That said, I believe their automotive industry is going metric now! @Erie Fred ?

UNC. I'd guess that one will be around 1/4", and IIRC it's fairly long.

From memory they're ¼ UNC. I might still have a bag of them from last time I replaced all the vibrated-out-and-lost ones, will have a look when I get home.

With a 13mm/ 1/2" head it would be 5/16" which is what it looks like from here.
Yes to coarse thread 5/16-18
1/4" = 7/16 head
5/16" = 1/2" head
3/8" = 9/16" head
IIRC Briggs only used 1/4-20 on the shroud bolts.

If you can find the engine model/type numbers, you should be able to get the parts diagrams on the website - https://www.briggsandstratton.com/eu/en_gb/support/manuals.html
A search for the part number might yield the actual size.

It would only cost a couple of quid, I've had folks on here do me favours, what goes around, comes around, couple of quid won't ruin me.

That did drag up a memory of having to drive from Fort Worth to the other side of Dallas to get plated metric screws of decent quality and quantity over 20 yrs ago. Couldn't find anything nearer - on recommendation of the maintenance guys in a LMCO facility.

You'd wander into Sears Hardware to buy spanners or such and find them in different coloured and labelled plastic wallets - if I remember correctly, grey for "domestic" and black for "foreign" ie metric.

Now I think you can wander into a Lowes or Home Depot and purchase metric screws with no problems. Spanners simply listed as inch or metric.
