If you haven't the room to bring home and saw up pallets invest in a pallet breaking bar and a cordless demolition saw and cut them up on site. Where I collect my pallets from the guy from the adjoining unit tried to pay me to take away his stack of pallets!
When I explained that I only wanted the pallets I was loading as I had a routine for dismantling them he moaned he'd have to pay for a large RORO skip to get rid of them.

My friend Mikki has heated her house for four consecutive winters now using only air dried compressed Horse manure bricks that we make during the summer months. 4 to 6 bricks each day to both her woodburner in one room and open fire place in the other room (8-12 daily in total) and the house is toasty warm all winter long.... and no there is not any smell from burning horse manure blocks, and when she cleans the grate she bags the (minimal) ash and sells it on to her gardening customers

This does work, I've seen dried buffalo dung mixed with straw to produce cooking fuel in very poor parts of India and Africa, kicks out some major heat and very little smoke

I have seen dried dung cakes used as cooking fuel in North Africa and India, and I have used dried cow pats, horse and pig dung here in the UK out of curiosity for campfire stew cooking.

What I really cannot understand is the reluctance by Britain's small holders and Horsey communities to dry and use the dung produced by their animals, but yet they unrelentingly bleat on about the cost of anything and everything and often just after throwing another costly log on the fire.

Alas, we do not have either an open fire or woodurner at home, but it took very little effort for me to convince and convert my friend Mikki over to using dried dung fuel bricks. Although see does keep about 1/2 ton of season logs in reserve, she has not been the position of having to use the logs because she has managed to easily make (with a little help from Lois & I), dry and store enough of these bricks to she her through a winter.
