Over the last 3 nights, myself and 3 others have replaced 200 600 x 600 5 tube Floresiant Lights, each with E light fitting built in.
The new lights are the same, but use LED lighting, with a small Bulls eye spot in the middle.

The manufacture made the new to be a direct replacement, so drop the cover, un plug the 5 way plug, remove the gear triain and fitr new. All is good.

There were 50 lights spread evenly over 4 floors and 4 stairwells.
One breaker per floor and stairs, rated at 20 amps.
One test swath for the same.

The question is.
Will the breakers have to be changed, as the new lights are pulling less amps?

Of yes, all wired in 4 core 2.5mm cable.

20 amps isn't a huge breaker anyway. I am sure it will be fine to handle dead shorts and other such mishaps.
How many watts are the new fittings compared to the old?

20 amp sounds big for a lighting circuit. What size is the cable as 2mm isn't a standard cable size?
The breaker is there to protect the cable only, the amount of fittings isn't really a consideration.

The breaker is only there to protect the wiring, nothing really to do with the fittings. So unless the wiring has changed then the breaker can stay as it is.

The only reason I’d be changing is if the wiring was replaced.

As per @dobbslc - Check the cable size, 2.0 doesn't sound right.
If it is wired in 2.5, then the breakers are fine. If its 1.5 or less then it sounds like they need changing.

IMO it also would be unusual to have that many lamps off one breaker, especially for the old fluorescents with all that inrush - normally you would have a contactor.

All original cables, just the internal fittings have changed.
Found out after the original post.
That last year the PIR detection were removed, so the lights are on all the time now.

20amp I thought was a too big, hence the question.
