I guessed that Bullet is working upside down, in a boat's engine space, it will be dark, dirty, and tight, so all those 'proper' engineering-type solutions are not going to happen..
Tapered wooden plug, tapped in with a hammer, locked in with fencing wire. Saves wasting £5 on Liquid MetalIt is only a temporary repair, need to move the boat about 5 miles to haul her out. Then she is getting a major upgrade.

Thank you. Have tried that, just not enough thread left at all.Use a steel blanking plug to clean the thread out a bit, then use that or the brass plug with:
Thread sealant?

Or PTFE tape?
Or plain old silicone sealant should handle the temperatures involved.
Ahh , thank you, great idea. I will give that a go,Tapered wooden plug, tapped in with a hammer, locked in with fencing wire. Saves wasting £5 on Liquid Metal![]()
? Thank you for the rant. Very helpful.May I ask why it had to take until post #26 of the thread for you to share this nugget of information? Do you not think it might have been somewhat important to mention it in the initial post? People are spending their time giving you good, economic engineering solutions and finally we find out that all you want is a quick, temporary job just to enable you to move the boat.
I bought a box of taps and plugs to repair stripped sump plugs. Lots of sizes and several of each for £14 of t'net. Was going to suggest that. Soon as I saw it was temp, then Jerry's answer was spot on. Use an oak plug. (I muck around with boats and see this sort of thing often) All boats here are required to carry a set of tapered plugs to bung up a skin fitting if it fails.Ahh , thank you, great idea. I will give that a go,

If only the titanic......That's always been the case on any boat that I've chartered. And usually any boat that I've sailed on. Self preservation.
Would have to have been an ginormous long and thin plug.If only the titanic......
