I made the mould using a putty made from cornflour + builders silicone. it doesn't work well!

I should point out that the *mould* didn't work well
the resin works perfectly.

I use the Polyester resin to, easy to work and crystal clear

what do you use for colour?

and do you stabilise/dry the wood you are encasing?

after all the horror stories I read about exploding pvc pipe when I was researching my foam maker, I decided to go with preformed pressure vessels that I can add my own holes and fittings to.

seems a lot safer!

I'm thinking about making my own pressure pot using a pressure rated manway, and welding a base on it and adding a few BSP sockets for inlet and a prv.
I'm hoping a used one might materialise at work somepoint in the fairly near future.

I'm not confident enough in my welding to weld a pressure vessel - I know it'll probably only leak, rather than rupture, but an old pressure cooker ought to be only 5 or 10 quid.
they're only 38 new from Argos.

I'd guess that a manway would cost *me* more than that.
seems a good solution if you can get one gratis, or scrap price tho.

why would it need a prv, btw?

you fill it with compreßed air to 50psi.
it's going good to have to reach 300c ish before it reaches 100psi?

unless there's a fire I suppose...

just had a quick look, and an 8bar (116psi) prv with a pressure gauge is less than 20 quid.
for that price, it's silly not to have one.

I was going to add a connector so I can use the tyre inflator on my compressor

This type I was thinking- same sort of things are in the top of the big spray pots.
Pull the ring up to release the pressure when you open it too.

I think it'll be safe to 50psi.
there's a bloke on utube who uses one at 60psi without issues.
it can't be any less safe than plastic pipe...

I got both the resin and dyes from Easy composites, but they have stopped doing the resin now but there are many suppliers, no none of the wood has been stabilized I just make sure it is as dry as possible. I use both a vacuum chamber and a pressure pot although not strictly required on small items. You need very little dye I use 1 drop per 200g of resin max. Then I pour into mould and leave overnight to set. Easy to turn on the lathe and a quick buff. Have a look on You Tube at Heath KNUCKLES (yes his real name)
