Hello all,
Very much new to all things metal work however I'm attempting to make an infill hand plane out of mild steel and brass.
Its going well so far how ever after peening the brass dove tails to the steel sole I was left with some very small gaps that look unsightly.
I'd like to try and fill the gaps so went and bought a length of brass solder wire which I thought I could use as a filler on the gaps.
I've tried to use a propane blow lamp to melt the brass solder wire but I've since learnt it's not hot enough.
Flow point of the brass solder wire is around 750c
I keep reading that I'll need an oxy-turbo touch but they are expensive and I'll only use it once.
I'm wondering if a map-plus blow torch would be hot enough to flow the solder wire.
Don't want to throw a load of money at this if it's not going to work.
Any other suggestions on how to fill the gaps I'm open to all advice.
I'll try and get a photo to show what I mean but on my phone at the moment.
Cheers
