Bakers fluid is evil stuff. It produces dense white fume, the slightest sniff and your lungs want out of your body

I suppose it's how much you are doing, IE if you are soldering day in & day out you are bound to be dangerously exposed to fumes, but as brightspark says, soldering [or as our american cousins say [ sordor] a radiator cap [it's a one off job] as in the post is not going to kill you, after using bakers fluid[killed spirits] for 60 odd yrs I've never been affected by it. [Parm stop frightening me!! ]

It his is secondary role to do that.
I agree, a few times, if done correctly is not going to kill you.
H&S is often taken too far by those who have no clue of the job in hand.

So far this week we've had on the forum a member stating that filtering respirators are ok to use with isocyanates, based on the fact that he had done this all his life and never experienced an issue. This may be the case and he may be one of the lucky ones that got away with it

A bloke, experienced painter with the same attitude as seen on here was teaching his nephew to spray paint cars in the garage at home. Don't need to do it like I've always done it like this. You'll be fine
Now the young lad has a debilitating form of occupational asthma, is so severely sensitised that he cannot even walk past a paint shop without a reaction. He will never work again. We will be paying for his benefits for the rest of his life
Im not going to change my position on calling out rubbish advice that may put the health of others at risk
Anyone that doesn't like what i say can block me

I think perception of risk is key.
If a person highlights a potential risk, and some one ignores it, well thats life, not everyones brain is connected to their ears. But to offer up incorrect information is not good, infact its actually criminal. We have all done things we shouldn't have done, but awareness is now so easily rasised with the tinterweb its fool hardy not to raise your own.
Things many of us dabble in and perhaps take for granted as common sense they are not, they are learnt behaviors, and as responsible members of society we should all try to aid our fellow man, ( person now sorry Kim)
As for soldering radiators having done a few out of necessity, take it to a radiator place.

Its quite ok to solder a radiator, a few simple precautions when using bakers fluid is all thats required. It really isnt complicated at all
If you feel the need to apologize at the end , best not to type it in the first place .

Parm knows I'm well aware of the risks. Soldering will be done outside with an air fed helmet on.
I think the problem nowadays is so many people say take it to a radiator shop.
Half these repair shops are rip off merchants who haven't actually got a clue what they're doing.
For gods sake we are welders, if we have to go to a "specialist" to solder brass to brass we are all doomed.
Bakers Fluid will be ordered and 60/40 lead bearing solder.

One that deals with the cumulative effects of workplace exposures on a daily basis and sees more **** than we will ever want to. A lot that likely can't be aired publicly I'm sure.
