Probably not. Other than context and origin. If you've got some yellow-brown metal that's not gold, then chances are it's a copper alloy. There are many types of 'brass' and 'bronze' with various additives. If its mainly zinc then probably brass, if its got more nickel and tin then more likely called 'bronze'. Or maybe you've got some 'spelter'.
what is it you have .stock material or old fittings like bearings or old gate valves . brass is yellow bronze is a well bronze colour . what are you using it for
Brass is generally yellowish & bronze is more pinlksh, try turning it,brass it comes off in fine slivers[eye protection needed!] & bronze usually turns with spirals, but there's scores of different brass/bronze combinations as said it helps to know what the original use was for
A drop of hydrochloric acid (e.g. patio cleaner*) on brass will etch out the zinc on the surface and leave a "pink spot", bronzes (usually) don't have a zinc content like brasses do?
Cymbals are probably a specific alloy though, possibly bell metal with a higher tin content?
