I want to make a Tellurion, kind of like an orrery but with just Sun, Moon and Earth. I would like to use brass for the gearwheels, but I'm not sure I'm equipped to do so..
I have the dimensions for the gears and could get them to diameter and drill the centres out on my little lathe, but when it comes to cutting the teeth I'm a bit stuck. I did look for a dividing head for the ML7 either using the headstock or mounting it on the saddle but I'm not too sure if I can justify the expense and if I would use it that much..
Another thought was machining the O/D and centre on the lathe and then rigging some kind of jig up for cutting the teeth on the bandsaw?
I also looked at getting them laser cut but I don't think it's going to be financially viable..
Any advice would be great!!
Cheers,
