it was easy. I simply sprinkled some sand and grit from a ditch onto the area I was welding on, as the coat hanger burnt down the sand melted acting as a flux, leaving an easy to chip glassy coating over the weld.....

If money isn't really your thing - or angry punters - you could just do a Youtube video. There are some tasty third world welding ones on there already.

Have you tried wrapping the coathanger wire in newspaper to make a cellulosic rod? Deep penetration, fierce arc and messy looking weld.
