hey Rig Pig,
lets b havin the ebay number please.....happy to buy it......saves the wife holding the S/P tool with vice grips.....
I have an even older Sykes Pickavant flaring tool......
bought mine new, must be 40 years old now.......them were the days....hahaha....
I use this type, does single and double flares well. I don’t think there’s anything better for flaring on the vehicle, so easy to use.
No doubt value for money wise but the Sykes Flaremaster 2 is similar size and is hydraulic so does steel with barely more than a twiddle of your fingers but it does cost £85 for the bare tool and £130 for a complete kit with tube bending pliers and tube cutter
I needed to joint some steel break lines under the car beside the fuel tank, I couldn't get my Sykes tool in there so I bought a cheap tool from EBay & I have to say I'm impressed for a change! Highly recommended if space is limited.View attachment 171280 View attachment 171281 View attachment 171282
I have couple of those hand-held types, after seeing lots of recommendations for them, but I must admit I wasn't impressed.
After a few uses the threads in the metal moulded block crumbled. Sent it back and got a replacement, few more flares and it started to go again.
Gave up and bought a Skyes lever style for bench work and the flaremaster 2 for on-car stuff. Ironically had no brake pipes to do since..

Good video on it also:I have an old Moprod flare tool that I must have had about 50 years. It does 3/16" SAE single and double perfectly with a little bit of brake grease on the die. I got a cheap Machine Mart tool like the above for different size tubing and it works but is not consistent. Laser do a tool that looks handy for on car operations LAS6728 does SAE and DIN flares but I've not seen one in use.
