about eight years ago i bought pagid discs and pads from ecp for my citroen zx as i need top spec to hold back 64hp absolutely the worst i've ever had. felt like there was a brick under the pedal even after bedding them in and gave off a burning wood type smell even on gentle braking. only use mintex, trw or unipart now depending on what's available on ebay

That's odd, I bought Padgid discs, but can't recall what pads from ECP in June 2018, they've been fine, just about to replace the pads after about 15k

There will be other motorfactors about your area - don't just assume it is Europarts or nothing.

As a trade customer I used spend a fortune with Euros every month pre covid - I hardly buy anything with them now. Reason being they just too expensive now.

As for quality - Eicher are made (or imported!) by TMD Friction which are a UK based company. Pagid is joint venture between Hella and TMD Friction. I think they are made mostly in Europe (or imported into Europe). Who owns the Eicher/Pagid trade name is anybodies guess. Eicher were tractor lorry manufactures in India once? But Crossland was a UK brand you could once trust - now it is a trade name owned by Eurocarparts. You can buy Eicher braking parts from suppliers other than Europooh - Halfords and other motorfactors sell them (which makes make me doubt Euro's own the trade name).

Eicher are an economy brand for sure. Poor fitting and squeal is the normal problems. Another ecomomy brand to avoid is Apex.

Better bet if you going down the cheap route is PPF braking parts - these are OK and I sell allot of them. Find a local motorfactor that is in either the Rapid or Group Auto buying groups and they will stock them.

I also sell and fit allot of OEM spec brakes - lots of FMM Jurid/TRW/Delphi - but very few Pagid/Brembo/Ferodo stuff of late. To be honest - ringing your dealership and asking for price - most manufacters sell ecomomy lines now. I buy allot of VAG group brake parts in "white boxes" from TPS. When you unwrap these - most of them look and have the same part numbers on them as the top line VAG stuff (this maybe just a way of moving the same stock for older models).

I need some new pads for the front of my Grand Vitara, I don't need high performance as I just bimble along and tend to brake early & gently

I've used Pagid discs before, but not their pads, do I go for them or Brembo or save a few bob and use Bosch?

This seems to create an issue I have while carrying out the same driving style, my discs on my hilux always degrade before they wear out, I need to stop driving so efficiently and start hammering the brakes to get them working, I think, cant think of any other reason the wearing parts on my discs get all patchy.

TPS was great when they sold to the public, sadly they don't any longer.

I do tend to use the gearbox to slow down so iam quite easy on the brakes

Me too, I was taught that way but I only get castigated on forums when that is mentioned, 'brakes to slow, gears to go' etc

I went with Pagid for rear disks and pads on our Kuga, same with the Golf and the GTO.

Never had an issue with them personally.

Pagid or Blueprint here as well, cant say I have witnessed any problems with them.

All the discs and pads I've had from my local factors have been Delphi, never had any problems with them.

EBC are okay.
Some of the cheapies are er crap!
Some cars are just fine on cheapies, others really need good brake pads.
Brembo from ecp are just cheapies in posh box.

I have a big spend with TPS every month - only down side with them the warranty on stuff you buy is non existent (poor is not a good description).

The last lot I got, and I specifically wanted Mintex, had Made In Romania on them. Excellent mind.

I am just in after swapping a set of almost new unbranded pads with Pagid on the rear of my my nephew's VW Caddy. The unbranded braked ok though were a loose fit in the carrier so made a noise whenever you braked! The Pagid are a much better fit, no noise.

Similar situation to me, I bought a set of pads from ECP for my 2019 Passat, got them fitted, on braking, there was a discernible noise on applying the brakes…removed the pads and returned them for another brand ( I forget which now..) which fitted much better….Suffice to say, when we replaced my sons Tiguan front discs and pads, VAG parts were used to avoid any issues…price wise, were similar to factor prices…

I bought some Apex pads for our Transit camper & ended up stripping the brakes several times on Spanish campsites, the squealed all the time & graunched when you braked hard so badly I thought we had a major fault. When I got back I bought Ford pads & chucked the Apex ones away. I’m in Spain at the moment, due for new pads when I get back, I shall just pay the extra & buy from Ford.

I got front and rear pads cheaper from Eurocarparts than I could get just fronts from my usual factor who tbh I've pretty much given up with since they've been taken over by a bigger outfit who only pedal their own brand stuff now.

When I'm in my local Motor Factors sometimes there is an ECP van collecting parts from them.

I only ever use Mintex. Made in Yorkshire... like me.

I went through every brand to find one that didn’t squeal on my Audi A8 (going back 20 years), the motor factor said if they squeal bring them back, Audi wanted over £200 for a front set of pads, the aftermarket ones were around £15, ended up with Mintex as they were better than all the others by quite a bit.

I only now ever buy Mintex, usually replace the disk as well as they only have 2mm wear limit which is 1mm in each side (usually).

Great pad with loads of grip at light pressure, love them.
