I was given a 1963 BUD a while ago and have been slowly finding my feet with it. Problem is now it has started to play up. I have been told it might well be the capacitor that is at fault but being an electrical half witt I;m not really sure what that is or how to test it. I've looked at pictures of capacitors on the internet but can't see one that's obvious in the motor cabinet. When I do find it does anyone know of a way I can test it with a digital multi meter. Lathe is single phase.
Symptoms are lack of hp ie when taking cuts it is possible to stall the motor. It also seems to kind of speed up and slow down at high rpm as though a brake is being intermitantly applied but the lathe does not have a brake.
Cheers,
Olly
