Here goes me diving into 3 phase with no experience again!
Long story short I got this lathe from a college and was shown it working but wasn’t allowed to disconnect it myself, they had to have electricians come in to do it. Unfortunately they just turned the 3 phase off and put a disc cutter through the cables.
There are obviously 3 lives, a neutral and earth but the lives aren’t labelled in any way.
The only part with L1,2,3 on it is the magnetic contactor. I started by continuity testing back from those numbered lives to the forward/reverse switch on the top left and then tested back from the opposite side of those connections to figure out the lives on the plain red wires feeding power in to the forward/reverse.
.Note: The red L1,2,3 labels on the black wires were added by me after continuing testing there was no labelling inside when I opened it.
So I now have live wires labelled inside and have traced each one and labelled it at the plug end before installing the plug.
Now the problem.
I plug it in and the red light on the front illuminated the coolant plump turns on and off but the buttons to turn the lathe motor on and off do nothing.
I can put the forward/reverse switch in both positions and press the manual button on the magnetic contactor and the motor works in both directions but the buttons on the outside still do nothing.
I’m pretty confident in saying the electricians haven’t been inside the machine as the rubber seal on the door was so hard stuck to the cabinet that I had to get a gurt flat screw driver to prise it open.
Assuming this (dangerous I know) the only issue I can consul with it that the lives I’ve traced through need to be in a different order?
Anyone have an idea?
