box-section steel inside uPVC windows & doors?

I'm pricing 40/50mm steel box-section just now with a view to making a chassis-tilter for my Hillman Imp project.

It's not as expensive as I thought it would be (£50 something plus VAT for 7.5m length)

Anyway. i have a vague memory of dismantling a uPVC door for the dump several years ago and am sure I remember being surprised that it had steel box inside the frame and also by how easily the steel slid out of the plastic.

Where I rent my barn there are some huge (7') sash-windows which will never be used and was thinking they might yield some good steel tubing and it will be easier to dispose of the plastic with less weight involved.

Anyone know if I imagined this or not?

will these uPVC windows have steel tubing inside the frames?

I've seen channel formed but not box inside them. If you want to dispose of those windows I might be able to find a useful home for them (with or without frames). We want to cover over a little courtyard behind the kitchen to make a big porch for jackets, boots and drying off dogs. Was going to go timber frames but those windows would work nicely to cover the area.

Meant to be fetching some granite kitchen counter tops from somewhere not far from you which will necessitate a trailer anyway.

Well I'm in East Kilbride, which is quite far from Wales, and the windows are heavy but if your trailer is big it could work out.

I'll need to speak to the owner - who is elderly and can be difficult to deal with.

iirc there are 4 of the wide ones and 2 narrower (same height). One of the bigger ones has a broken mechanism too
