I need to weld several brackets onto one side of a 5m length of 100 x 100 x 3mm for a large framework, there are 10 to do. I've done similar projects with shorter lengths of the same stock and I used clamps and pretensioned on the opposite side with a bit of bend. In that instance I got away with minimal distortion in the workpiece.
However, with this project using longer lengths I'm concerned about distortion and I wondered if anyone had some alternative methods and tips please? I know that heating the opposite side to the weld can work, but does it need to be the same amount of heat, or would I get by using a propane torch?
Many thanks,
