Absolutely in love with this car, the V8 sounds amazing and the power is simply lovely. I’ve gone from a 1.9 306 diesel so the creature comforts are a big bonus too such as cup holders, cruise control, working electrics etc
Puts a smile on my face every time i drive it even more so considering it cost me £3,900 with 59k on the clock and FSH

First job will be to get the auto box serviced and sort out the knock when turning right at slow speeds (suspension bush?)

and then a silencer delete

It averages about 20mpg, so it’s a good job fuel is nice and cheap

Looks like an S-type - so a Lincoln underneath, but no bad thing for what it is I believe.

Very nice buy that jag..enjoy it while you can as a few more years these big engine old cars will be planters in the garden. Same reason i am smoking about in the wife's big old S500 Merc while i can

No, that was rumoured to be the X Type but in truth that was really only some switchgear, wiring and other incidental parts.

The S Type was basically a Lincoln platform but worth remembering this was carried over to XF, arguably the most successful Jag ever.

The 4.0 V8 got better with age, especially after they stopped using nikasil liners.

That is a lot of car for the money.

Edit. If you want extraordinary value for money the XFR with the 5.0 ‘Charger is a real weapon. Never mind fuel cost, it’s rear tyres you need to think about. 3k out of a set for me

No. (not that being the same platform as the Mondeo was actually a bad thing), it's the same as the later Jaguar XF though.

You might be thinking about the 4.4 BMW M62 which was fitted to early L322 Range Rovers. Was replaced by the Jag 4.2 Supercharged in later L322 and the bored out 4.4 Jag AJV8 in Discovery 3.

I don't think many people really understand what an "automotive platform" is. The X-type and Mondeo may have shared some inconsequential parts but mostly they shared merely the same relative locations and some bits of the floorpan would have been the same.

The worst thing really about the X-Type was that it was available as a FWD which doesn't really fit in with the "premium" image of having a Jaguar.

Ageeed, but the 3.0 4wd estate X Type was actually a very good beater whilst being a pretty civilised drive. The diesel (all versions) were truly horrid.

yeah, the rear ones don't look like they've ever been sat in either. I'll get some pics of the inside, it's a proper nice place to be.

yeah 10 disc CD changer in the boot, had to dust off my CDs, clubland sounds grand with the jag sound system
