hi mate i have just tryed and had a look at the regulator , there is number 1-6 on it however it only workd when fully skrewed 1 way , witch is at the point were i never had itso it looks like i have been welding without the gas
so how much will this effect my welding ? ( serioulsy)
yep theres your problem i think the disposable regulators are only on or off, no adjustment of flow rate
but i have owned a few capris (17) and run them around wirral (well terriosed wirral)!!

have you bought new sills i got some for my mk1 they went upto the fake air vents near wheel arch
u got a mk1 / coool
i havnt got mine yet but to be fair i wouldnt be to worried if they did as the cologne arches i am fitting will cover the whole back panel anyways !i have gota projects thread on here , lets see some pics of yours !! are you on capripower.co.uk

unfortunately i no longer have mine only the original handbook mine was a 1972 1600 xl until i stuck a 3 litre gt essex in it

Three bits of advice.
Practice practice practice, then maybe practice again. Looks as though you are getting there. Practice on scrap stuff first. You will get there in the end, it is a steap learning curve. but very satisfying.
Edit, find some similar thickness metal to what you are using and make a couple of trial attempts with that before committing yourself. I do this a lot when I am not sure what I am doing.

ow and may i add , it was a very good solid peice of the sill , cleaned to high heaven with a flap disc
A car sill on a Capri is probably only 0.9-0.8mm to start with and if you have "cleaned to high heaven" then that is your problem you probably are trying to weld metal that may only be 0.5mm thick now.
Also, you are almost certainly making the classic beginner mistake of trying to run a continuous bead on very thin metal! Don't, as trying to run a long bead will put too much heat into the steel and will blow holes! Use the overlapping pulse thin metal technique as described excellently by Malcolm here;

This is the way to weld thin car metal and I devoped the same technique myself the hard way, by trial and error!
You want your welds to look like this:-
Read the thin metal technique several times then try it on NEW steel pieces of approx 0.8mm-1mm.

Edit- just looked at the pics of your welding and it looks like you have run out of shielding gas, or did not have it turned on. btw if you are going to restore a whole car then the best thing you could do is get a regulator and hire a big cylinder of gas. Those little bottles last no time at all. I only use them as a stop-gap for when my big cylinder runs out.
One last thought, get lots of ~1mm clean offcuts of steel and practise the thin metal technique A LOT!
ok here goes it was a little harder on the thinner car metal , but i got better in the end , it was blowing through in the odd place but that was on the edges of the plate as i think i put it on the wrond way meaning the edge of the old metal was showing (mistake learnt )
the other thing i was wondering is if everything has to be seem welded or not as i think with the thinness it will be difficult !!
